IF: Electricity

For this week’s theme I had no idea what to draw.  When hearing the word electricity a light bulb popped into my head.  But I thought it was kind of boring to just draw a lightbulb, so I drew a bunny next to it.  No reason really.  I’m lacking creativity, and just wanted to draw something.

We're going to Disney in a few weeks!  I also just got a new box of Prismacolor color pencils!  I'm equally excited for both, and decided to draw Mickey with my new color pencils!  I love these pencils!!

Its been awhile since I participated in Illustration Friday.  Here is this week's topic, Twins.

Art Supplies

There are a lot of new art supplies that I've tried and loved over the past year that I just wanted to share!

•Copic markers.  I was getting bored of my color pencil illustrations, and I got turned on to Copics from various artists on youtube.  Since they are so expensive, I only started out with a few, and I currently only have about 10 of them, but I love these markers!  I like how they have their Ciao line, which are cheaper, smaller, and great for beginners!  I prefer their 'sketch' markers because one of the sides is a brush, as opposed to their 'original', which doesnt have the brush option.  I'm still experimenting with them, and want to get a ton more colors, so I will be talking about Copics a lot more in future posts.

•Sharpie Pen When I first started using copics, I was having a problem with my pens bleeding into my markers, and mostly when I used the pens first and put the copic on top.  After trying several brands, I found that these Sharpie pens didn't bleed!  There are still a bunch more brands I want to try out, but for now I'm sticking to these whenever I use my Copics!

•Staedtlet Triplus Fineliner pen.  These pens are awesome!  Not so good to use with Copics, as they tend to bleed, but these are awesome for pen drawings, or if your using color pencils.  This is my go-to pen for when I'm not using Copics.

•Uni-Ball UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel Pen.  These are awesome to use as a highlighter when working with either Copics, or color pencils.  They take a minute or two to dry, but def worth it for their effect!

•Crescent Rendr sketchbook.  When bought my first few Copic markers, I also bought this because it had awesome reviews.  I love this sketchbook!  It's no show thru technology allows you to use every single page!  Now I've only used markers in the book so far, so I cant say whether or not it works with other media, but it really does live up to it's standards, and I will continue to repurchase this for when I'm using markers!  The only thing I have to say about this book is that is claims to have a 'lay flat' binding which eliminates the 'bump' you get in most sketchbooks when you try to use both pages, however it doesn't lay flat, and I still get that 'bump'.  However for me this is a minor inconvenience that wouldn't stop me from purchasing again in the future.

*Blog Update

Hey blog world!  I've been somewhat MIA from the blogging world the past few months.  I've been going through a lot of changes with my work.  It's not that I haven't been drawing, I have, its just that lately I've been really self conscious of my work and I've been trying to take steps to better improve my work.  It's easy for me to get disapointed with myself when I don't feel my work is improving, and not being where I want to be in the art world.  I've really been making more of an effort just to find myself, find my style, and create work that I can be proud of.  I've been spending a lot of my time on Instagram finding new artist to follow, studying their work, and trying out new styles of my own.  I've also been experimenting with new art materials.  Going forward with my blog, I'm not only going to be sharing more of my work, but I'm also going to be sharing more of my work process, new art materials I've been loving, and new artists that have been inspired by.  Also, if you aren't already following me on IG, please follow along @gina_land, as I try to post weekly doodles on there!

Friday Favorites!

Its been quite some time, but I'm back!  What better way to kick off Memorial Day weekend than with a Friday Favorites post!  

1. Ulta's Butter Balm  This stuff is awesome and comes in a bunch of colors!  I got this in colors  Belle and Thumbelina.  Belle is a great every day color, while Thumbelina is a great color to wear if you're going out.  It's also affordable!

2. Pretty As A Peach  I picked this up at the end of last summer, and it has been my go-to fragrance ever since!  

3. Talenti   I have been obsessed with this ice cream, and have yet to come across a flavor I didn't like!

4. Copic Markers  I only have a hand full of these markers, but they are seriously the best markers I've ever tried!  I always get excited when I find a new medium that I enjoy using!

5. Essie Mint Candy Apple I have been wearing this color non-stop since getting it about a month ago!  I rarely get my nails done, but I love polishing my own nails and this color is a great addition to my collection!

There ya go!  I'm going to be updating my blog with new work more steadily from now on.   I took a break for a while, and am excited to finally get back into it.  More to come!

Here if my submission for this weeks Illustration Friday.  Anyone who knows me know that I hate everything about orange.  The flavor, the fruit, the color...everything!  So when I saw that this week's topic was 'Orange', I thought this little doodle was very fitting.

Inspiration, a need for change, and a doodle

I've been in somewhat of an artistic block lately.  Maybe artistic block isn't the correct word.  Maybe what I'm trying to say is I'm bored.  I've been using color pencil for years now, and I'm starting to yearn for something new.  I've been super inspired lately by Fran Meneses's work, who uses mainly markers.  After watching almost all her youtube videos, and doing my own research on markers, I decided to take the plunge and finally order a few.  I also ordered a brandy new sketch book.  This is the first time in a while that I bought new art supplies.  I'm super excited, and ready to experiment with something new and really develop my style even more.  

And since I can't really post something without a doodle, here is a little color pencil doodle I made.  This might be my last color pencil doodle for awhile.  Hopefully I can get the hang of my new markers, and am looking forward to posting new work soon!  Stay tuned!

IF: Childhood

So I'm back!  I took a couple months off from blogging to get back into the swing of things.  It's not always easy being a full time working mama, and most nights I just want to spend with my bud, but I was able to work out more of a schedule to where I can devote a little time each night to doodling before bed.  I thought Illustration Friday was a good place to start!  My plan is to participate in this every week.  I'm hoping to develop more of a style to my work and to also experiment more with water color.  Here is my doodle for the theme Childhood, done in my favorite medium...color pencil.

Even though I took some time off from the blogging world, I have been doodling here and there in my sketchbook.  If you follow me on Instagram you will see some of the doodles I've done in the past couple months.

Well it's that time of year again!  The time of silly resolutions, and reflections on the past year.  Since everyone else is doing it, I'll throw my two cents in too.  2015 has been a pretty awesome year for me.  Probably the best year so far of my life!  I was pregnant for half the year, which was amazing in itself, and the other half was spent in complete awe over my tiny little baby butt, who has been the best thing to ever happen to me!  While I don't think 2016 could ever beat 2015, I am looking forward to making many more memories with my new little family!  Until next year everyone!
