Painted Pumpkins!

Fall is probably my favorite season.  I love the weather, I love the fashion, I love Halloween, and I love painting pumpkins!  I only painted one this year, as opposed to the two I painted last year, but this year I got a little bigger of a pumpkin and painted both sides.  If you couldn't tell, they are inspired by Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas.  I have always been a huge fan of Tim Burton's work, and couldn't think of a better time of year to be inspired by him.

And if you can see in the last picture above, I also have a hand painted mail box.  I painted this years ago, but I don't think I ever showcased it on this blog.  I had found an old, white, flower covered mail box, and not wanting to pass up an opportunity to be creative, I did what any girl would have done...I painted skulls on it!  I've had this mail box on my house for about 4-5 years now, so it might look a little dirty in the close up below, but I still wanted to post it.

Halloween is in the air!

I'm usually not one to decorate for any holiday other than Christmas, however this fall/halloween I have been feeling a little festive!  After years of trying to perfect the art of carving pumpkins, and failing miserably each time, last year was the first year I gave up carving, and turned to painting pumpkins!  Do you remember this post, where I painted my very first pumpkin in the dark due to hurricane Sandy?  Well, I had so much fun painting it that this year I decided to paint two of them!  I prefer smaller pumpkins, for me they are just easier to handle, so I picked up two of 'em at ShopRite last week while I was food shopping.  I gathered all my supplies, including some yummy homemade cucumber water in my new mason jar (recipe here), and went to work!  (don't mind my pink striped pajama pants and polk-a-dotted slipper socks. I like to be comfy as I work, haha).

I took my time, and completed these two pumpkins in a just few days.  They were so much fun to paint, I wish I bought more!  Here are the end results...

Now the hard part is deciding where to put them.  In my living room in front of my fire place?  Or outside on my front steps?  Decisions decisions decisions...

Hurricane Sandy

Anyone who hasn't heard, Hurricane Sandy swept across NJ on October 30th and destroyed almost everything in it's path.  It left a lot of people with out power, myself included, who was without power for 10 days.  One way I prepared myself for this hurricane was to go grocery shopping three days before.  While I was there I saw these cute little pumpkins and realized that it was almost halloween and I totally forgot about getting a pumpkin!  I picked one up with intents that I would paint it if the power went out.  Well our power did go out and within moments I lit a bunch of candles and painted this by candle light.  I had so much fun!  Since the power was out, there was nothing to distract me, like tv or internet, or my cell phone, so I was really able to enjoy it.  If I realized that I was going to be without power for so long I would have picked up a few more, but instead I spent the rest of my 10 days knitting and trying not to be grumpy.  I will be posting some of my knitting projects once I stop being lazy.
